Review: Akasa Venom Voodoo

Conclusion:

The Akasa Venom Voodoo is the latest black magical attempt on gaining ground in the performance cooler market. Akasa relies on the tried and tested HDT design and a load off heatpipes to make things happen but there is more to the magic. It seems as the Vipor might has injected some Venom in to the performance potential. In our tests, the Venom Voodoo overall did perform well but there are clear limitations. The cooler was not able to separate itself from the pack, even with two fans.

The Akasa Venom Voodoo handled the fully loaded i7 960 @ 4.0GHz well enough to keep it below or in the early 90's degrees, depending on which fan was used. Considering that most future platforms will use less power and produce less heat we believe it save to say that this cooler will perform well here. The exception is the new 2011 socket coming our way soon.

Analyzing the testing results for the Akasa Venom Voodoo shows not only that there is still more room for improvement but also .that there are clear limitations. The 2nd fan attached could not achieve the extra performance results. If that 2nd fan would be counter rotating to create a turbine effect as we have seen with other coolers, the performance could possibly be enhanced but there still are lurking performance issues with the cooling body itself.

Other then that we could not find any major issues with the cooler and overall found it comfortable to work with. The noise perception from the cooler was relatively comfortable.

The Akasa Venom Voodoo has been released midway this year and availability is still scarce. There is no official MSRP given so far but we have seen the cooler range from $79.99 USD to $85.99 USD. Prices should stabilize once this cooler is readily available on the market. The performance of this cooler is good and the value lies in the eyes of the beholder. We recommend this product this cooler as a good alternative.
