Introduction:

Arctic Cooling has sent over the Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 for review, and we will be taking a look at it to see how well it will perform on our test bed. This cooler is a bit different from what we have had so far on our test bench. For starters, the cooler has a fan attached from the manufacturer, and the fan is not meant to be exchanged with any aftermarket fans. This isolates and limits our testing ability, but nevertheless we will try to give you the best overview and test results obtainable from this cooler.

The “Freezer” line from Arctic Cooling is known to be one of the better entry-level aftermarket cooling solutions, and an affordable one as well. We will see exactly how far this will take your cooling and if it is still a feasible option.

The majority of high-end coolers are settled and equipped with one 120mm fan. Some manufacturers decided to add a 2nd fan to further enhance the cooling ability, and the newest trend is increasing the size of the cooler and the fan to 140mm. The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 is equipped with a single 92mm fan. This puts this cooler at an immediate disadvantage in regards to it’s competition.

I am glad to see that Arctic Cooling is recognizing that good thermal compound is important in order for the cooling performance to directly translate into heat removed. After all, Arctic Cooling is the manufacturer of one of best thermal compounds out today, which is now available in it’s 4th revision. Arctic Cooling decided to equip the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 with Arctic MX-2.

You will also receive a wide variety of socket mounting options which include older sockets like Intel’s LGA775, and AMD’s 939 and 754.

Manufacturers Description:

Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 is a high performance CPU cooler for Intel and AMD. The heatsink features 6 heatpipes and 42 fins for efficient heat dissipation. Thanks to the vibration absorption, the fan is whisper-quiet even at full load.

Features:

  • Efficient cooling
Featuring a 92 mm PWM fan and 6 heatpipes, the Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 offers performance far beyond stock coolers and achieves 130 Watts cooling capacity. The unique heatsink design consists of 42 fins, which significantly enhances the heat dissipation performance.
  • Minimum of Noise
Due to the low noise impeller and the patented fan holder, the 92 mm fan of the Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 generates only 0.8 Sone at 2,500 rpm, which is extremely quiet for such performance. Controlled by PWM signal, the fan runs just the necessary speed at lowest noise level for maximum cooling capacity.
  • Easy installation
The unique mounting system via push pins offers excellent stability and is applicable within a few seconds. The pre-applied ARCTIC MX-2 thermal compound makes the installation a quick and clean process.
  • Wide compatibility
With the flexible mounting design, Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 is compatible with Intel Socket 1366, 1156, 1155 and 775 as well as AMD Socket AM3, AM2+, AM2, 939 and 754.

Supported Sockets Include:

Intel 775 / 1156/ 1155/ 1366
AMD 754/ 939/ AM2/ AM2+/ AM3

The Verdict

4Poor
The Good:   Budget friendly | Small size | Acceptable noise level
The Bad:    Performance insignificantly better then Intel’s stock cooler | no high quality copper used for the base
